Job summary

Thames Water Ltd in Ashford Common (TW15 1RU) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer/ Technician to inspect, maintain and repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment across water production sites.

You will work with minimum supervision, perform fault diagnosis, and support 24/7 standby rotation after training. The role offers a stable career with competitive pay, a company van, tools, PPE, and generous pension.

Qualifications

• You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering.
• A problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or elevate if required.
• An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to Internal and External staff and contractors.
• Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative, to design to standards.
• Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
• Team player who can work in many different teams, showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Working on various pumps, involved in water transfer within water treatment works and transmission of water throughout the network, as well as smaller chemical dosing pumps.
• Investigating mechanical plant failures and carrying out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions for our customers.
• This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents. Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical equipment in compliance with company standards and procedures to improve plant resilience.
• Provided technical advice to the wider team, referred to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provided training or support for technical trainees if required.
• Participation in a 24/7 out-of-hours standby Rota will be required after a suitable period of training and assessment.
