Band 3 Ward Clerk

Ward 3A Critical Care

To serve as the point of contact for patients, visitors and staff entering 3A.

To provide administrative support to ensure smooth flow of the patient admissions, discharge's, transfers and general ward operations.

The post holder might be required to work across the Trust at any time throughout the duration of his / her contract, which may entail travel and working at different hospital.

Main duties of the job
  • Greet patients, visitors, and relatives in a friendly, professional, and helpful manner.
  • Answer telephone enquiries; direct calls to appropriate staff; take and relay messages.
  • Manage patient admission / discharge / transfer paperwork, updating hospital / ward information systems.
  • Maintain and update patient records, including processing patient notes, test results, and reports.
  • Book patient transport (if applicable) and coordinate with porters, pharmacy, and other support services.
  • Maintain the ward admission book and monitor daily patient list.
  • Assist with general clerical tasks : filing, photocopying, scanning, distributing mail.
  • Manage visitors’ sign-in / out (if required) and ensure visitor policies are adhered to.
  • Ensure confidentiality and data protection at all times.
  • Liaise with nursing staff, doctors, and other ward team members to facilitate patient care.
  • Provide cross-cover for colleagues across the cardiology admin team during periods of annual leave, sickness, or unplanned absence, ensuring continuity of service.
