Job Overview

The Underwriting Performance Analyst plays a key role in monitoring, analysing, and enhancing the financial and operational performance of Carbon's syndicate. This role combines technical financial understanding with commercial insight to support strategic decision-making, planning cycles, and regulatory reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Analyse the financial performance of the syndicate, including combined ratios, investment income, and capital efficiency.
  • Track actual vs. plan performance across premium, claims, expenses, and technical result.
  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual MI packs for executive, board, and Lloyd's returns.
  • Investigate drivers of performance variances and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Translate technical performance outputs into actionable recommendations for underwriters and management.
  • Work cross-functionally with underwriting, finance, claims, and exposure teams.
Qualifications

We're looking for a commercially minded analyst with strong data presentation and business partnering skills to join our growing InsurTech team. This role sits at the intersection of underwriting, business analytics, and insurance performance - ideal for someone with 1-3 years of experience who thrives in a fast-paced, data-driven environment, 1-3 years of experience working within the Lloyd's or London Market, ideally within a managing agent, syndicate, or actuarial consultancy.

  • Experience in analysing underwriting performance for a book of business.
  • Proficient with at least one BI tool (Looker, Power BI, Tableau, etc.) and capable of building productionised dashboards.
  • Comfortable working with data sets; SQL essential, Python desirable.
  • Able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Curious, commercially aware, and eager to work in a collaborative, startup-style environment.
  • Degree in a numerical, financial, or analytical discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Actuarial, Finance, Economics).
  • Progress towards a professional qualification (CII, FIA, ACA, CFA) is advantageous.
