Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join the Legal & Compliance team in the UK. You will advise on UK Data Protection laws, support the DPO, and lead initiatives from DPIAs to breach oversight.

The role requires proven data protection expertise within compliance or legal functions, a strong understanding of ICO guidance, and the ability to handle complex, time-sensitive workloads with professionalism.

Qualifications

• Experience providing data protection advice within Compliance or Legal functions at a specialist level.
• Strong understanding of ICO guidance, codes and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Ability to research, analyse, interpret and present complex regulatory information.
• Comfortable challenging views and interpreting regulatory guidance with accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes to the business.
• Support Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA) maintenance.
• Assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead assessment, oversight and reporting of personal data breaches; include MI reporting to senior forums.
• Act as a primary contact for DSARs, complaints and litigation matters related to data protection.
• Develop and implement second-line monitoring activities to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with ICO on customer complaints and regulatory queries, ensuring robust investigations and responses.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance colleagues across the business to resolve privacy issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data protection compliance and operational efficiency.
