Job summary

An international education provider in Stockton-on-Tees is seeking a Mathematics instructor for their International Foundation Year and Pre-masters programmes. The role involves teaching various Mathematics modules, supporting international students' academic transition, and participating in staff meetings. Candidates should have a Master's degree in a relevant discipline, with a PhD preferred, and proven teaching experience in a Further or Higher Education context. This position offers a full-time contract with competitive pay.

Qualifications

  • Fluent spoken and written English is essential.
  • Recognised teaching qualification is desirable.
  • Experience in teaching Mathematics in Further or Higher Education is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Plan lessons in line with departmental expectations.
  • Assist in module development and examination preparation.
  • Act as module coordinator for a specific maths module.
  • Maintain records of student attendance and performance.
  • Support various student engagement activities.

Job description

Contract type: Full Time (37.5 hours) – Permanent

Location: Stockton-on-Tees, Durham International Study Centre

Salary: up to £ 39,605.59 per annum

To teach a broad range of Mathematics modules at both International Foundation Year and Pre‑masters level, across the three different programmes of study at the centre. (Business, Economics, Accounting and Finance, Humanities, Law and Social Sciences, and Science and Engineering). There will be a particular focus on delivering pre‑masters modules and adequately preparing students for the rigours of postgraduate education.

ABOUT THE ROLE
  • Planning and preparing lessons in line with departmental expectations, using appropriate teaching methods and resources.
  • Assisting in the development of modules from existing module specifications.
  • Preparing module examinations and other forms of formative assessment, marking and providing feedback to students.
  • To act as a module coordinator for a specific maths module.
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of the virtual learning environment (VLE).
  • Providing input for related modules to the annual review and reporting process.
  • Reviewing your own professional development and identifying any training needs.
  • Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date record of student attendance and performance.
  • Providing, when/if required, academic learning support to a small number of students.
  • Participating in regular meetings with both teaching and support staff.
  • Supporting various student engagement activities around the ISC.
  • Attending lectures given by Durham University to support student progression.
ABOUT YOU
  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline (Master’s degree essential but PhD strongly preferred).
  • Fluent spoken and written English. (essential)
  • A recognised teaching qualification. (desirable)
  • Teaching experience, delivering Mathematics programmes within a Further Education or Higher Education context. (essential)
  • Experience of working with international students online and face to face. (highly desirable).
  • Proven ability to support international students in academic transition. (essential)
  • Experience of preparing resources, assessments and examinations. (essential)
  • Competent IT skills. (essential)
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. (essential)
  • Confident and competent practitioner, online (e.g., use of Teams/Zoom) and face to face. (desirable)
