Job summary

Pathway Academy Zone is seeking an experienced Tutor to join our Alternative Provision team in Stoke-on-Trent. You will plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to the individual needs of our learners, supporting young people who may not thrive in mainstream education.

You will differentiate instruction, monitor progress and provide constructive feedback while safeguarding and maintaining high welfare standards. Collaboration with TAs and pastoral staff is essential.

Qualifications

  • Qualified teacher with PGCE, QTS, QTLS or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.
  • Experience in Alternative Provision or SEND/SEMH preferred.
  • Ability to differentiate and support learners with additional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver structured lessons tailored to individual learner needs.
  • Teach learners individually and in small groups with differentiation.
  • Monitor progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Maintain safeguarding and learner welfare standards.
  • Collaborate with Teaching Assistants and pastoral colleagues.
  • Complete learner records and progress documentation.

Job description

Pathway Academy Zone is recruiting an experienced and motivated Tutor to join our Alternative Provision team in Stoke-on-Trent.

We support young people who may not currently thrive within a traditional mainstream education environment.

The role requires someone who can combine strong teaching with patience, resilience and the ability to build trust with learners who may have additional learning, behavioural or emotional needs.

The Role

You will plan and deliver engaging learning sessions designed around the individual needs of our learners.

Responsibilities include:
  • Planning and delivering structured and engaging lessons

  • Teaching learners individually and in small groups

  • Differentiating learning according to individual ability and need

  • Supporting young people with SEND, SEMH and behavioural needs

  • Helping learners re-engage with education

  • Establishing clear routines, expectations and professional boundaries

  • Monitoring and assessing learner progress

  • Providing constructive feedback and setting achievable targets

  • Completing learner records and progress documentation

  • Working collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and pastoral colleagues

  • Supporting individual learning and behaviour plans

  • Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and learner welfare

About You

We would particularly welcome applicants with experience in:

  • Alternative Provision
  • Secondary schools
  • SEND or SEMH provision
  • Pupil Referral Units
  • Further Education
  • Vocational training
  • Behaviour or pastoral support

You will need to be confident, adaptable and able to communicate effectively with young people from a range of backgrounds.

Qualifications

Ideally, applicants will hold a recognised teaching qualification such as:

  • PGCE

  • QTS

  • QTLS

  • Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training

  • Or another recognised teaching qualification

Candidates with strong vocational expertise and an appropriate teaching or training qualification may also be considered.
