Job summary

Pathway Academy Zone in Stoke-on-Trent is recruiting an experienced Tutor to join our Alternative Provision team. You will plan and deliver engaging sessions tailored to each learner's needs and support those with additional learning, behavioural or emotional needs.

We welcome applicants with experience in Alternative Provision, Secondary schools, SEND/SEMH, Pupil Referral Units, FE, Vocational training, or pastoral support. A recognised teaching qualification is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Qualified teacher with PGCE, QTS, QTLS or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.
  • Experience delivering lessons to learners with diverse needs including SEND/SEMH.
  • Experience working in Alternative Provision or pupil referral or FE environments.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to individual learner needs.
  • Teach learners individually and in small groups.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet ability and need.
  • Support learners with SEND, SEMH, and behavioural needs.
  • Establish routines, monitor progress, and provide feedback.

Education

PGCE or QTS or QTLS or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training
Experience in Alternative Provision
Experience in SEND or SEMH provision
Experience in Secondary schools
Behaviour or pastoral support

Job description

Pathway Academy Zone is recruiting an experienced and motivated Tutor to join our Alternative Provision team in Stoke-on-Trent.

We support young people who may not currently thrive within a traditional mainstream education environment.

The role requires someone who can combine strong teaching with patience, resilience and the ability to build trust with learners who may have additional learning, behavioural or emotional needs.

The Role

You will plan and deliver engaging learning sessions designed around the individual needs of our learners.

Responsibilities include:
  • Planning and delivering structured and engaging lessons
  • Teaching learners individually and in small groups
  • Differentiating learning according to individual ability and need
  • Supporting young people with SEND, SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Helping learners re-engage with educationEstablishing clear routines, expectations and professional boundaries
  • Monitoring and assessing learner progress
  • Providing constructive feedback and setting achievable targets
  • Completing learner records and progress documentation
  • Working collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and pastoral colleagues
  • Supporting individual learning and behaviour plans
  • Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and learner welfare
About You

We would particularly welcome applicants with experience in:

  • - Alternative Provision
  • - Secondary schools
  • - SEND or SEMH provision
  • - Pupil Referral Units
  • - Further Education
  • - Vocational training
  • -Behaviour or pastoral support

You will need to be confident, adaptable and able to communicate effectively with young people from a range of backgrounds.

Qualifications

Ideally, applicants will hold a recognised teaching qualification such as:

  • PGCE
  • QTS
  • QTLS
  • Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training
  • Or another recognised teaching qualification

Candidates with strong vocational expertise and an appropriate teaching or training qualification may also be considered.
