Job summary

Pathway Academy Zone in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking an experienced Tutor to join our Alternative Provision team. We support young people who may not thrive in mainstream education and need tailored teaching.

You will plan and deliver engaging sessions, differentiate for learners with additional needs, and work with Teaching Assistants to monitor progress. The role emphasizes safeguarding and learner welfare and may lead to a full-time position as the cohort grows.

Qualifications

  • Qualified teaching qualification such as PGCE, QTS, or QTLS.
  • Experience with SEND or SEMH provision is preferred.
  • Experience in Alternative Provision or pupil referral units is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver structured and engaging lessons.
  • Teach learners individually and in small groups.
  • Differentiate learning according to ability and need.
  • Support learners with SEND, SEMH and behavioural needs.
  • Monitor and assess learner progress.
  • Provide constructive feedback and set achievable targets.
  • Complete learner records and progress documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and pastoral colleagues.
  • Support individual learning and behaviour plans.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and learner welfare.

Job description

Pathway Academy Zone is recruiting an experienced and motivated Tutor to join our Alternative Provision team in Stoke-on-Trent.

We support young people who may not currently thrive within a traditional mainstream education environment.

The role requires someone who can combine strong teaching with patience, resilience and the ability to build trust with learners who may have additional learning, behavioural or emotional needs.

The Role

You will plan and deliver engaging learning sessions designed around the individual needs of our learners.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering structured and engaging lessons
  • Teaching learners individually and in small groups
  • Differentiating learning according to individual ability and need
  • Supporting young people with SEND, SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Helping learners re-engage with education
  • Establishing clear routines, expectations and professional boundaries
  • Monitoring and assessing learner progress
  • Providing constructive feedback and setting achievable targets
  • Completing learner records and progress documentation
  • Working collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and pastoral colleagues
  • Supporting individual learning and behaviour plans
  • Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and learner welfare
About You

We would particularly welcome applicants with experience in:

  • Alternative Provision
  • Secondary schools
  • SEND or SEMH provision
  • Pupil Referral Units
  • Further Education
  • Vocational training
  • Behaviour or pastoral support

You will need to be confident, adaptable and able to communicate effectively with young people from a range of backgrounds.

Qualifications

Ideally, applicants will hold a recognised teaching qualification such as:

  • PGCE
  • QTS
  • QTLS
  • Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training
  • Or another recognised teaching qualification

Candidates with strong vocational expertise and an appropriate teaching or training qualification may also be considered.
