At Tarmac, our Operatives are the heartbeat of our business. As an Apprentice Operative, you’ll gain hands‑on experience in the production of concrete, aggregates, asphalt, and other essential building materials. You’ll learn how to meet technical specifications, ensure product quality, and operate safely and efficiently in a fast‑paced environment. You’ll also build a solid foundation in Safety, Health, and Environmental policies, preparing you for a rewarding and responsible role in our industry.

What you’ll be doing…
  • Supporting the safe and efficient operation of a ready‑mix concrete plant.
  • Learning to lead RMX operations and ensure the safety of all site personnel and visitors.
  • Assisting with toolbox talks and safety briefings.
  • Managing daily production tasks such as stock ordering, inspections, and defect reporting.
  • Helping to manufacture high‑quality concrete in line with technical standards.
  • Contributing to operational performance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintaining plant availability through inspections and scheduled maintenance.
  • Keeping the site clean, organised, and compliant with health and safety standards.

Life on site! You will work both inside and outside, sometimes in a dusty or confined environment. However, your health and safety are our number one priority and full protective clothing is provided. Your colleagues are also there to help and look out for you, as safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Qualification: Mineral Processing Mobile and Static Plant Operator – Level 2 Apprenticeship. You will need to travel to the National Skills and Safety Park in Macclesfield NG20 9JF. The course will be delivered in block release, so accommodation and travel expenses will be provided.
