Job summary

Metro Rod West Yorkshire is hiring a Trainee Drainage Engineer in the Bramley/West Leeds area. This role offers a 45-hour week, with a salary of £29,741–£31,590 basic plus on-call overtime. Full training provided; prior drainage experience not required.

You will work across domestic and commercial drains, operating jetting equipment, and recording details in client systems, with a view to building a long-term career within a growing company.

Qualifications

• Hands-on technical or construction experience preferred.

• Must be physically fit and able to do manual work.

Responsibilities

• Carry out drainage cleaning, clearance, repair and maintenance for domestic and commercial customers.
• Operate high-pressure water jetting equipment following safety standards.
• Carry out surveys and record job details accurately in internal systems.
• Provide excellent customer service and technical advice to clients.
• Be part of an on-call rota to support clients 24/7/365.

Metro Rod work with the likes of Equans, Amey, Aldi, Mitie, Greggs, McDonalds, Wetherspoons and many more in the FM, Social Housing, Property Management, Retail, Industrial and Leisure sectors. The role:

This role is ideal for someone practical, hardworking and keen to build a long-term career in the drainage industry. You may already have experience in construction, utilities, groundworks or another hands‑on environment, or simply be looking for an opportunity to learn a skilled trade. No previous drainage experience is essential, as full training will be provided—but you’ll need a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and be comfortable working outdoors in all conditions.

What does it entail?

• Carrying out a range of services associated with the cleaning, clearance, repair, and maintenance of our domestic and commercial customers’ drains
• Operation of High-Pressure Water Jetting Equipment in line with rigorous safety standards
• Carrying out surveys
• Providing an exceptional standard of customer service and technical expertise
• Accurately recording work/job details via a range of bespoke internal/client systems and apps
• Communicate effectively with high profile commercial and domestic clients and Metro Rod Support Centre colleagues to ensure excellent customer service is always provided
• Being part of an on‑call rota to help service our clients 24/7 / 365 days a year. This would be one week in four– variable according to the business needs
