Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is seeking a Tenancy Relations Officer to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of residents. You will provide high-quality support and mediation to tenants and landlords in the private rented sector, ensuring compliance with housing legislation and promoting good tenancy relations.

You will investigate complaints, liaise with landlords, and advise on tenancy rights while supporting enforcement actions and stakeholder liaison.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of housing and tenancy law in practice.
• Experience of partnership working with internal and external stakeholders.
• Track record of managing conflict and complaints.
• Understanding of local authority practices and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice, support and mediation to tenants and landlords in the private rented sector.
• Investigate complaints and provide specialist advice and casework support.
• Enforce compliance with housing legislation and promote tenancy rights; uphold tenants’ rights.
• Draft warning letters and enforcement notices; assist in formal legal action as required.
• Support collection, preparation and presentation of evidence for legal proceedings.
