Job summary

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is seeking an experienced housing enforcement professional to lead tenancy protection, support responsible landlords and tackle unlawful practices within the private rented sector.

As Tenancy Relations Officer you will prevent harassment and illegal eviction, investigate offences, gather and present evidence, conduct interviews under caution and prepare legal notices and penalties.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience of tenancy protection, housing regulation or a related enforcement field.
  • Sound knowledge of landlord and tenant law.
  • Investigative and evidence-gathering skills.
  • Confidence in challenging situations.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Fairness, resilience and sound judgement.
  • Relevant housing or legal qualification, or equivalent degree-level education and experience.
  • A full current driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Help tenants remain safely in their homes and prevent threatened illegal evictions.
  • Investigate harassment, unlawful eviction and other housing offences.
  • Gather and present evidence, conduct interviews under caution and prepare legal notices.
  • Issue civil penalties and build robust cases for prosecution, court or tribunal.
  • Work with the Police, Shelter, Citizens Advice and other partners to secure positive outcomes.
