Team Leader - Chilled Food Manufacturing

Location: Leicester, LE5.

Pay: £14 per hour (up to £34,944 per year based on 6:00am - 2:00pm, Friday to Wednesday).

Hours: 6:00am - 2:00pm, Friday to Wednesday. Flexible, may rotate depending on production needs.

A well-established chilled food manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Team Leader to oversee daily production operations. This is a hands‑on role for someone confident managing a team on the production floor while maintaining high standards of food safety, quality, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Print and review daily production plans and paperwork.
  • Complete pre-start checks, including equipment, hygiene, temperatures, and CCPs.
  • Communicate the daily plan to the team and allocate tasks effectively.
  • Oversee cooking of sauces to recipes and specifications.
  • Manage packing and palletising of sauces for transfer to another site.
  • Maintain high GMP, hygiene, and food safety standards throughout the shift.
  • Monitor production performance, resolve operational issues, and manage line start-ups, changeovers, and shutdowns.
  • Ensure all production, quality, and safety paperwork is completed accurately and handed to the Line Manager.
  • Ensure effective cleaning is completed at the end of the shift.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and monitor KPIs such as productivity, waste, and downtime.
Experience & Background
  • Proven experience in a chilled food manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience as a Team Leader, Line Leader, or Supervisor in food production.
  • Hands‑on experience leading teams on the production floor.
  • Cooking or food preparation experience is an advantage.
  • Forklift experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience working to HACCP, GMP, and food safety standards.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to manage attendance, timekeeping, and basic disciplinary issues.
  • Knowledge of food safety, allergen control, traceability, and contamination prevention.
  • Good understanding of food manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Strong health & safety awareness with ability to enforce safe working practices.
  • Clear communication, confident decision‑making, and problem‑solving under pressure.
  • Accurate completion of production, quality, and safety paperwork. Basic IT skills.
  • Reliable, flexible, adaptable, with a positive hands‑on approach and strong work ethic.
