Abbey Hill Academy – Teacher of PE

Location: Ketton Road, Stockton on Tees, TS19 8BU

Temporary maternity cover – 1‑year, start 2nd March 2026.

Salary: MPS/UPS £32,916 to £51,048 + SEN 1 Allowance £2,787.

We are part of Horizons Specialist Academy Trust, which includes 8 academies and serves over 1000 students aged 5–18 with a broad range of learning difficulties.

Abbey Hill Academy & Sixth Form serves approximately 360 young people, specialising in students aged 11–18 with a full range of learning difficulties and other physical and social needs.

Job Summary

The Academy seeks a Teacher of PE to cover a maternity leave, teaching students aged 11-16 with a broad range of special educational needs.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver the PE curriculum to students with varying ability levels and broad special educational needs.
  • Teach students working academically between the EYFS curriculum and Year 6 expectations.
  • Maintain high expectations, enthusiasm, inspiration, and resilience as an outstanding practitioner.
  • Collaborate within a supportive and nurturing multi‑academy environment.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Excellent subject knowledge in PE and ability to deliver curriculum to non‑specialist and specialist learners.
  • Experience with students aged 11–18 with learning difficulties – desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to work as part of a teaching and support staff team.
  • Experience of delivering rebound therapy is a bonus; training can be provided.
