Role Overview

Mercor is partnering with a leading AI research organization to engage professionals with advanced expertise in Statistics. As an AI Tutor Statistics Specialist you will play a pivotal role in training next-generation AI systems to reason accurately about statistical concepts methodologies and data analysis. This is a full-time opportunity for experts who are passionate about advancing statistical reasoning within cutting-edge AI technologies.

Youll collaborate closely with technical and research teams to develop and refine data annotation frameworks design challenging statistical problems and provide detailed high-quality feedback that enhances model understanding. Your expertise will directly shape how advanced AI systems engage with complex statistical reasoningfrom probability theory and inferential methods to Bayesian modeling and experimental design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Use proprietary software to annotate and evaluate statistical data equations and model outputs
  • Design and select challenging statistical problems in areas such as probability theory regression modeling stochastic processes and Bayesian inference
  • Collaborate with technical teams to refine annotation tools and workflows for higher accuracy and efficiency
  • Analyze and critique AI-generated statistical reasoning to improve clarity correctness and interpretability
  • Choose problems from statistical domains that align with your expertise focusing on areas such as probability theory inferential statistics regression modeling multivariate analysis stochastic processes Bayesian methods experimental design and data-driven applications where you can confidently provide detailed solutions and evaluate model responses
  • Ensure the highest standard of data quality and maintain consistency across diverse tasks and formats including text voice and video
Ideal Qualifications
  • Masters or PhD in Statistics or Mathematics with a strong focus on probability or applied statistics
  • Exceptional command of English both written and verbal
  • Proven ability to analyze complex data and apply sound statistical judgment
  • Strong research and reasoning skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently while managing evolving and complex instructions
  • Deep curiosity about AI data-driven technologies and the role of statistical methods in intelligent systems
Preferred Background
  • PhD in Statistics or a closely related quantitative field
  • Peer-reviewed publications in statistics probability or applied modeling
  • Previous teaching or tutoring experience in university-level statistics or mathematics
  • Prior involvement in AI training data labeling or model evaluation
Work Environment and Schedule

Location: Palo Alto CA (in-office five days per week) or fully remote

The Palo Alto role is in-office five days per week; remote roles require strong self-motivation and reliability.

U.S.-based applicants must reside outside of Wyoming and Illinois.

Visa sponsorship is not available.

Schedule: 9 : 00am - 5 : 30pm PST for the first two weeks of training then 9 : 00am - 5 : 30pm in your local timezone.

For those working from personal devices your computer must be a Chromebook Mac (macOS 11) or Windows 10 device and you must have reliable smartphone access.

Compensation and Benefits

Competitive pay ranging from $90000 to $200000 annually for U.S.-based professionals depending on experience and location.
