University of Brighton seeks a Staff Residential Adviser to support students in campus accommodation. You will join Residential Wellbeing, providing pastoral guidance, responding to welfare concerns, and signposting services, while living in halls and taking part in an overnight rota.
Applicants must be current university staff with a substantive post. Strong communication and calm decision-making are essential to help students feel safe and supported during their university journey.
We are offering a unique opportunity to live and work on campus supporting students in our university accommodation.
As a Staff Residential Adviser, you will be part of a team providing pastoral support and guidance to students living in halls of residence. Residential Wellbeing is the support network for students in university accommodation and sits within the wider Student Wellbeing Team. Together, we support around 2500 students living across our campuses in Brighton.
This is a unique role for an existing member of university staff. Alongside your full-time role, you'll live in one of the halls of residence and join a rota with five other Residential Advisers to provide overnight on-call cover from 7.30pm to 7.30am, including weekends and bank holidays and closure periods.
The Staff Residential Adviser role is a secondary role undertaken alongside your primary University employment. It is a condition of the Residential Adviser agreement that you are employed in a substantive position at the University of Brighton. If you leave your substantive post, you will unfortunately no longer be eligible to be a Residential Adviser.
We are looking for someone who enjoys working directly with students and is committed to supporting them during their university experience. As the role involves out-of-hours work and occasionally responding to challenging situations, you will need to remain calm, think clearly, and make sound decisions when needed.
You should be adaptable, approachable, and have strong communication and interpersonal skills. You must also be willing to live on campus and take part in the overnight on-call rota, including some weekends and bank holidays.
