Job description

Staff Backend Engineer at Aionex

London • Engineering • In office • Full-time

Summary

Aionex is an independent development company on the Perpl Protocol.

We are building a gas efficient fully decentralised exchange (DEX) for the Perpl Protocol.

Perpl is a high-performance, orderbook-based perpetuals DEX launching on Monad.

We are backed by top crypto-native investors and building the next evolution of on‑chain trading—one that combines CEX‑level performance with DeFi composability and transparency. Our mission is to bring the speed, efficiency, and capital depth of traditional finance on‑chain, without compromise. Built on Monad, the first high‑throughput EVM chain with parallel execution, Perpl enables traders and LPs to operate in a fully permissionless, transparent environment with zero slippage and deep liquidity.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Staff Backend Engineer who enjoys implementing systems that will connect users to our DEX and transmit external data to our DEX. You will be an important member of our company, making history, contributing to the development of the first fully decentralised perpetuals exchange built around a Central Limit Order Book (CLOB), entirely on an EVM chain!

You will report to the Principal Backend Engineer and work to develop and maintain the systems connecting web and mobile clients to blockchain data and systems. Although this project centers around a blockchain system, previous experience with blockchain is not a hard requirement.

Our Culture

We cultivate a dynamic and inclusive culture where innovation and creativity flourish. Transparency, open communication, and hard work are at the heart of what we do. Our team is made up of passionate individuals dedicated to technology, customer success, and driving meaningful change.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain:
    • backend systems that connect users to our blockchain systems.
    • backend systems that collect critical external data our blockchain systems depend upon.
  • Work cross‑functionally with other engineering teams to enable a complete end‑to‑end solution that is performant and reliable.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience.
  • Experience developing secure production backend systems at scale on cloud infrastructure, involving the following components:
    • Data Pipeline Tools
    • Relational, In‑Memory, and Time‑series Databases
    • Notification Systems
    • Virtualization
  • Prior experience:
    • Shipping products and written production‑grade code.
    • Working with Rust, Go, or other high‑performance languages suitable for demanding services realization.
  • Experience leading cross‑functional efforts to launch products.
  • Excellent oral, written, and visual communication skills.
Bonus Points
  • Past experience working in high‑paced startup environments
  • Knowledge of EVM, DEXs, Perpetuals, and other novel DeFi primitives
  • Proficiency in Rust
Location
  • In‑person first with optional work from home flexibility. Team is currently headquartered in London with a few distributed globally.
Our Benefits
  • Competitive salary, equity, and token package
  • Comprehensive health insurance coverage for you and your family
  • Professional development opportunities, including training programs and conferences
  • Generous vacation and paid time off policy
  • Company‑sponsored social activities and team‑building events
  • Modern and comfortable work environment with state‑of‑the‑art equipment and facilities
