Job description

Are you interested in working with Adults with Learning Disabilities as part of a Multidisciplinary Community Learning Disability Team (CLDT) Lancashire and South Cumbria Foundation Trust are developing their CLDT’s to offer person centred Multi-Disciplinary support for people with Learning Disabilities.

This post would offer you the opportunity to work as part of a team of Speech and Language Therapist’s delivering interventions to meet the communication and Dysphagia needs of adults referred to the team. In addition to working with a caseload in the Pennine area (East Lancashire) during the first 24 months you will also work alongside Highly Specialist SLTs in other localities within the LD service to develop your knowledge and skills in targeted clinical areas including dysphagia.

You will join a team of Speech and Language Therapists who work across LSCFT and meet on a monthly basis for clinical supervision, to develop and share good practice.

Applications are welcome from qualified SLTs and students graduating in 2025. NQPs will be supported to complete the requirements of the RCSLT.

Appointment is by interview and successful applicants will need to undergo the usual NHS pre-employment checks, including an Enhanced DBS check.

As a qualified Speech and Language Therapist this role is to work as part of a Multi-disciplinary team working with adults who have a learning disability in the community. The post holder will provide evidence based speech and language therapy assessment, treatment and intervention to service users who have learning disability and communication and/ or eating and drinking difficulties. The post holder will apply their competence in core speech and language therapy skills to the learning disability field. The caseload may cover the whole spectrum of communication disorders including non-verbal communication, alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), dysfluency, autistic spectrum disorders.

The post holder will work alongside more senior experienced SLTs to consolidate and develop their skills, and while able to work alone as an autonomous professional, they will be supported through regular contact and supervision from Specialist SLTs. Newly qualified band 5 Speech and Language Therapists will be supported to meet standards of competency as dictated by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy (RCSLT) Newly Qualified Practitioner framework. The post holder will be a key member of the Integrated LD Team and will work with the team to develop person centred care plans. Clinical supervision by a Specialist SLT.

Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including secondary mental health care across this area. Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.
