South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust seeks Applicationsfor a friendly team player for a Specialty Doctor Post atCT3/ST3+ level or equivalent. You will participate in theprovision of service primarily based on the South Tyneside hospital site withsome duties in Sunderland. Primaryduties will be in Intensive Care, with opportunities to practice in Anaesthesia.

You may need to provide medical carefor patients receiving level 3 care being transferred between Trust sites andto tertiary centres.

Main duties of the job

This Post will allow you to further-develop your clinicalskills and experience in a supportive and dynamic department with a trackrecord for excellence in training. As a specialty doctor you will be entitledto study leave and the Post attracts 1 SPA per week. Clinical and educationalsupervision will be provided, with opportunities for development in leadershipand management, quality improvement and medical education.

The Post is based over both acute sites within the Trust. The out-of-hours resident duties of this Postwill primarily be based at the six-bed Intensive Care Unit at South Tyneside Hospital on a 1:9 rota. Some activity maybe delivered in the 16-bed Intensive Care Unit in Sunderland. Sessions in Anaesthesia will also beavailable, although the Post is primarily-based in Intensive Care.

Youwill work in a team of trainees from the Northern School of Anaesthesia &ICM, Specialty Doctors and Consultant intensivists.

You must be fully-registered with theGeneral Medical Council, with a licence to practice, and have significantdemonstrable experience in intensive care and anaesthesia within the NHS.Applications from clinicians unable to work full-time will also be considered.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
• Eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to, practise from the GMC.
• Eligible to work in the UK.
• Significant demonstrable experience in intensive care medicine and anaesthesia within the NHS.
• Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as assessed by the General Medical Council.
• Must meet professional health requirements (in-line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice).
• Primary FRCA or equivalent*.
• ALS, ATLS, APLS.
• Higher Degrees including MSc, PhD or MD.
• Post-graduate qualifications achieved in other specialties.
• Current employment in a UK Core Anaesthetics / ACCS Anaesthetics Training Programme and have completion of a stage 1 certificate (2021 curriculum) by the Post start date OR current employment in a UK Anaesthetic Higher Specialty training programme (2021 curriculum) at ST3, ST4 or ST5 level OR Completed Equivalence certificate for Stage 1 (2021 RCoA curriculum) OR successful completion of a UK ACCS or core anaesthetics training programme.

Non-Clinical Experience

• Is able to demonstrate an understanding of clinical governance and risk management.
• Demonstrates understanding of research, including awareness of ethical issues.
• Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence-based practice, patient safety, and clinical quality improvement initiatives.

• Documented competence through continuous work-based assessments and other portfolio evidence.
• Able to undertake the following with distant supervision (evidence may be requested): Central venous and arterial cannulation, induction of anaesthesia for the critically ill patient with cardiorespiratory instability or raised intracranial pressure, transfer of the ventilated patient.
• Ability to undertake indirectly supervised lists and emergency care of ASA 1 and 2 patients for minor and intermediate surgical procedures.
• Experience in a complementary specialty.
• Additional clinical competence to that expected by the training programme.
