Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our laboratory team as a full time HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Agenda for change band 6).

Candidates will need to possess an IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Clinical Chemistry if registered with the HCPC after 2006. Consideration may be given to candidates who can evidence that they are approaching completion of the specialist portfolio, who would be employed under Annex 21 conditions.

The department operates a 24/7 service utilising a continuous process pattern (CPP) system based on blocks of shifts. Out of hours working attracts a CPP payment, of approx. £8,500 per annum depending on shifts worked. The successful candidate will be required to fully participate in the CPP rota, after suitable training.

This role will be based at the Airedale General Hospital (AGH) laboratory site and the successful candidate will be employed directly by the NHS as an Airedale NHS Foundation Trust employee.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to work in all sections within the chemistry department, demonstrating specialist knowledge and technical skills and providing day to day leadership within the team.

The role will also include supporting the Advanced BMS EQA and IQC lead with day to day duties, including EQA and IQC monitoring, undertaking initial poor performance investigations and ensuring compliance with departmental processes.

The successful candidates will need to be enthusiastic, well-motivated and innovative, with good organisational and practical abilities supported by well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to support individual and team working.

The department currently utilizes Beckman AU5800, DXI immunoassay, Vidas 3, Sebia Capillays and Sebia Hydrasys technology, in conjunction with a Winpath LIMS system.
