Job summary

National Instruments is seeking a Classroom Assistant – Special Educational Needs to support pupils with varying SEN within a school setting. You will assist the class teacher in delivering education and basic care, following Education Plans and safety procedures.

The role emphasizes safeguarding, teamwork, and flexible, pupil-centred support to promote independence and learning in both classroom and wider school activities.

Qualifications

• Requires at least a Level 2 qualification or equivalent.
• At least 12 months’ experience in a formal learning environment (or 6 weeks if integral to Level 2 course).
• Knowledge of health and safety requirements and safeguarding for children.
• Ability to plan, organise and follow the school’s systems and plans.
• Demonstrates empathy, confidentiality, and positive communication.
• Ability to work as part of a team and adapt to flexible tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist with support and care of pupils with special educational needs.
• Implement and monitor Education Plans and Care Plans as directed.
• Support pupil independence and participation in activities.
• Assist with transport, movement, and safe supervision of pupils.
• Contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment.
• Attend in-service training and support placement tasks.
