Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) seeks a Classroom Assistant – Special Educational Needs to support pupils with SEN under the direction of the class teacher. The role includes promoting inclusion, assisting with personal care, and helping implement Education and Care Plans.

You will work in a school environment providing day-to-day support, preparing resources, and assisting in managing the learning environment while maintaining confidentiality and child safeguarding standards.

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum of a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant area.
• Have a minimum of 6 weeks experience gained in a formal learning environment or through a placement as part of your level 2 qualification.
• Alternatively, have a minimum of 12 months’ experience in a formal learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the educational support and care of pupil(s) with special educational needs in the classroom.
• Assist with access to the curriculum and attending to personal needs.
• Support with programmes such as Education Plan or Care Plan and participate in evaluation.
• Promote inclusion of pupil(s) in mainstream settings under direction of the class teacher.
• Assist with movement around the school, and supervision of pupils in activities and on transport.
• Assist in management of the learning environment and maintain confidences according to school policies.
• Provide continuity of adult care and assist with administration of prescribed medicines as required.
