Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Classroom Assistant – Special Educational Needs to support pupils with SEN under teacher direction. The role involves assisting with learning activities, managing the learning environment, and promoting inclusive education.

You will work closely with teaching staff to implement Education Plans, ensure pupil safety, and support individual needs, including personal care and use of ICT where appropriate.

Qualifications

• Hold a Level 2 qualification in a relevant area.
• Minimum 6 weeks experience in a formal learning environment (or part of Level 2 training).
• Alternative: 12 months’ experience in a formal learning environment.
• Health and safety requirements
• Development needs of children and/or young people
• Child protection and safeguarding
• Evidence of planning/organising skills and teamwork
• Good communication and ability to follow plans

Responsibilities

• Assist with the educational support and care of pupils with special educational needs.
• Support pupil inclusion in mainstream school settings.
• Assist with administration and record keeping for pupil progress.
• Provide continuity of adult care, support with personal needs, and supervision.
• Be aware of school policies and confidentiality.
