Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) seeks a Classroom Assistant – Special Educational Needs to support pupils with diverse needs under the guidance of the class teacher. You will help enable access to the curriculum, attend to personal needs, and assist in implementing Education Plans and Care Plans.

You will work within a pupil-centred setting, promoting independence, safety, and inclusive practices while following school policies and safeguarding guidelines.

Qualifications

• Essential criteria: Level 2 (Certificate/Diploma) in a relevant area from a recognised awarding body.
• Essential criteria: 6 weeks experience in a learning environment or placement.
• Alternative: 12 months’ experience in a formal learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Special Classroom Support: assist with pupils with SEN, promote inclusion in mainstream settings.
• General Classroom Support: help manage learning environment, supervise, and reinforce learning.
• Administration: support with records and materials; contribute to progress reporting.
• Other duties: participate in training and support placement students; adapt to evolving tasks.
