Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) seeks a Classroom Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs in a learning environment, both in and out of the classroom. You will assist with educational activities, ensure safety and promote participation in inclusive settings.

You will work under the direction of the class teacher, supporting planning, safeguarding, and the delivery of the curriculum while maintaining pupil wellbeing and confidentiality within a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum of a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant area from a recognised awarding body.
• Have a minimum of 6 weeks experience in a formal learning environment or through placement.
• Or have a minimum of 12 months’ experience of working in a formal learning environment.
• Demonstrate knowledge of health and safety requirements, development needs of children/young people, and safeguarding.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the educational support and care of pupil(s) with special educational needs in and outside the classroom.
• Support the inclusion of pupils in mainstream schools under the direction of the class teacher.
• Assist with operational difficulties and non-invasive medical/clinical needs and with safeguarding procedures.
• Support in implementing behavioural management programmes and supervise pupil movement and activities.
• Provide continuity of care and contribute to learning with classroom administration as needed.
