Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a dedicated Classroom Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs in and around the classroom. You will help with educational activities, personal care where needed, and ensuring inclusive participation in learning.

The role requires empathy, reliability and the ability to work as part of a team, with a commitment to safeguarding and child welfare. Training and ongoing support are provided within a school setting.

Qualifications

• Hold a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant area (Certificate or Diploma level).
• Minimum 6 weeks experience in a formal learning environment or through a placement as part of your level 2 qualification.
• OR 12 months’ experience working in a formal learning environment.
• Working knowledge of health and safety requirements
• Understanding development needs of children and/or young people
• Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding requirements

Responsibilities

• Assist with educational support and the care of pupils with SEN.
• Develop understanding of pupils' specific needs.
• Assist with Education/Care Plans and participate in evaluation of support.
• Contribute to inclusion of pupils in mainstream schools.
• Assist with operational tasks and non-invasive medical/clinical needs.
• Support behavioural management programs as directed.
• Assist pupils in moving around school and on/off transport.
