Job summary

Education Authority in Northern Ireland seeks a Classroom Assistant – Special Educational Needs to support pupils with SEN under the direction of teaching staff. You will help with curriculum access, personal care and inclusion within mainstream settings, while adhering to school policies and safeguarding procedures.

The role includes assisting with programmes, managing learning environments, and providing continuity of adult care across activities, transport, and off-site events.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate health and safety awareness.
• Understand development needs of children/young people.
• Know child protection and safeguarding basics.

Responsibilities

• Assist with educational support and care for pupils with SEN.
• Support access to curriculum and personal needs such as dietary, feeding and toileting.
• Assist with programmes (Education Plan/ Care Plan) and participate in evaluation.
• Contribute to inclusion of pupils in mainstream settings as directed.
• Support with behavioural management and safety in school settings.
• Assist with movement around school and on transport.
• Assist with classroom administration and recording pupil progress.
