Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Classroom Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs under the supervision of teaching staff. Duties include facilitating access to the curriculum, assisting with personal care, and contributing to inclusive practice within the classroom.

The post emphasizes safeguarding, collaboration, and flexible support across classroom and school settings to promote pupil learning and well-being.

Qualifications

Hold a minimum of a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant area obtained through a recognised accredited awarding body.
AND Have a minimum of 6 weeks experience gained in a formal learning environment or through a placement as part of Level 2 qualification.
OR Have a minimum of 12 months’ experience working in a formal learning environment.

Responsibilities

Assist with educational support and care of pupils with special educational needs in or outside the classroom.
Assist with access to the curriculum and attend to personal needs including dietary, feeding and toileting.
Contribute to inclusion of pupils in mainstream classroom and support programmes as directed.
Assist with classroom administration and maintaining pupil progress records.
Prepare resources and supervise activities under the direction of the class teacher.
