We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individualto join our team. The team is looking for candidates who are committed topatient centred and evidence-based care of the highest standard, to workwithin the interventional radiology department here at Leeds TeachingHospitals NHS Trust. You will rotate around 3 sites (LGI, SJUH and BexleyWing) and enhance your knowledge of radiology-based procedures as aninterventional radiology nurse. This involves the care of the consciouspatients undergoing elective and acute, diagnostic and sometimes complexmulti-organ vascular procedures such as embolisation of tumours/haemorrhage,angioplasty, stenting, nephrostomy insertion, tumour ablations, and acuteurological and vascular procedures and stroke thrombectomy. This post isbeing advertised as B6 annex 21. It is aimed but not exclusive to candidatescurrently working at Band 5 who are ready to develop specialist nursingskills associated with interventional radiology theatres and looking for aprogressive role to a band 6 position. All candidates will be consideredbased on their experience, knowledge and skills.
Thistraining role offers an excellent opportunity to develop key skills,
especiallyin scrubbing to assist with theatre procedures. You'll be involved inperioperative patient care, including administering IV medication andpost-operative care such as sheath removal. The role requires closecollaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including consultants,radiographers, and other healthcare professionals. A new radiologydevelopment pathway is available to support your growth, helping you gain thecompetencies needed for the Band 6 Specialist Peri-Operative Practitioner role,with training lasting up to 24 months. As you progress, youll be able towork on call across both sites. This role is ideal for those pursuing acareer in radiology theatres, offering the chance to gain essentialcompetencies under the guidance of experienced colleagues. You'll buildspecialist knowledge, preparing you for a Senior Peri-Operative Practitionerrole. You'll deliver high-quality patient care while ensuring efficient useof resources. After completing the training, you will lead a sub-specialtywithin Interventional Radiology, such as neurology, tissue viability, orinfection control. You'll work with the multidisciplinary team to improvepatient care, theatre performance, and quality, while also contributing tothe evaluation of pre- and post-operative care. Regular updates with thesenior nursing team are also included in the role.

Asan experienced practitioner the jobholder will co-ordinate activities withinthe peri-operative environment ensuring effective communication is maintainedat all times, providing support to qualified and unqualified staff within thedepartment. He/she will play a key role in the assessment of patient careneeds and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes ofcare.
Thejobholder will play an essential role assisting deputy/team leader in leadingand teaching the peri-operative teams throughout the 24 hour period.
Thejobholder will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-basedpractice, developing the peri-operative team and ensuring effectivemanagement of the department in the absence of the deputy/team Leaders.
Thejobholder will work within an environment for peri-operative patients
Inorder to carry out the job sufficiently and effectively you will havesuccessfully attained and be able provide documented confirmation of allrequired interventional radiology competencies for the role as detailed inthe addendum. Alternatively, under Annex 21 working towards (up to a maximumof 2 years) undertaking the required training programme and
competenciesto enable you to undertake the role, you will be supported to develop anextensive range of competencies and specialist knowledge within thediscipline through extensive practical experience, in house training andstructured study and will continue to develop your skills and knowledgesubject to the requirements of continuous professional development (CPD).
