Derby Heights Care Home is seeking a Sous Chef to support the head chef in running a kitchen team that serves nutritionally balanced, high-quality meals to residents within budget.

You will prepare modified diets to IDDSI guidance, supervise unqualified kitchen staff and uphold strict food safety standards. DBS check and proof of right to work in the UK are required.

Sous Chef at Derby Heights Care Home, part of Avery Healthcare Group. The post supports the head chef in running a kitchen team that serves nutritionally balanced, high-quality meals to residents within budget. It also covers preparing modified diets to IDDSI guidance and supervising unqualified kitchen staff, with food safety central to the role. A City & Guilds 706 or NVQ-level catering qualification and at least a year's catering experience are needed, along with a DBS check and proof of right to work.

What the job involves

• Support the head chef in leading a culinary team that provides a nutritionally balanced, high-quality service within budget
• Prepare modified diets that are appealing, well-balanced and follow IDDSI guidance
• Supervise and direct culinary staff as the head chef directs
• Instruct and demonstrate simple food preparation to unqualified staff
• Apply safe food handling principles so that food preparation meets the highest hygiene standards
• Help all culinary team members understand the Avery Food safety management system

Qualifications

• Relevant catering qualification (City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2, NVQ or equivalent)

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year's catering experience
