Job summary

Avery Healthcare, via Priory Court Care Home in Stamford, is seeking a Sous Chef to support the head chef and lead a kitchen team in delivering nutritionally balanced, high-quality meals within budget. The role requires supervising cooking staff and ensuring high hygiene standards while accommodating residents’ dietary needs.

You will hold a catering qualification and have at least one year of catering experience, plus a DBS check and the right to work in the UK.

Qualifications

• Qualified in catering (e.g., City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ) or equivalent
• At least one year of catering experience
• DBS disclosure check and proof of eligibility to work in the UK

Responsibilities

• Support the head chef in leading a culinary team to deliver nutritionally balanced meals within budget
• Prepare modified diets that look appealing and follow IDDSI guidance
• Supervise and direct kitchen staff, instructing and showing simple food prep to unqualified staff
• Ensure high hygiene standards through safe food handling
• Support the Avery Food Safety Management System across the team

Job description

Sous Chef at Priory Court Care Home in Stamford, part of Avery Healthcare, a group running over 100 luxury elderly care homes. The post supports the head chef in running a kitchen team that serves nutritionally balanced, high-quality meals within budget, including appealing modified diets for residents. It also involves supervising kitchen staff, upholding food hygiene standards and embedding the Avery food safety system. Candidates need a catering qualification, a year's catering experience, a DBS check and right to work in the UK.

What the job involves

• Support the head chef in leading a culinary team that delivers nutritionally balanced, high-quality meals within budget
• Prepare modified diets that look appealing, are well balanced and follow IDDSI guidance
• Supervise and direct culinary staff, instructing and demonstrating simple food preparation to unqualified staff
• Ensure all food preparation meets the highest hygiene standards through safe food handling
• Support all culinary team members to understand the Avery Food Safety Management System
