Job summary

Avery Healthcare's Saxon Manor Care Home is seeking a Sous Chef to support the head chef in leading the kitchen team. You will deliver nutritionally balanced, high-quality meals within budget, including modified diets per IDDSI, while supervising and guiding unqualified staff.

You will help ensure food safety, follow the Avery Food safety management system, and contribute to learning and development opportunities across the catering team.

Qualifications

• Relevant catering qualification (City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2) or NVQ or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year catering experience.
• Proof of right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

Job description

Sous Chef at Saxon Manor Care Home, one of Avery Healthcare's homes, supporting the head chef in leading the kitchen team. The work centres on nutritionally balanced, high-quality meals within budget, including modified diets to IDDSI guidance and supervision of unqualified staff. Food safety follows Avery's own management system, and the employer funds the DBS check. A catering qualification and a year's catering experience are needed, along with proof of right to work in the UK.

What the job involves

• Support the head chef in leading the culinary team
• Provide a nutritionally balanced, high-quality culinary service within budget that supports residents' well-being
• Prepare modified diets that look appealing, are well balanced and follow IDDSI guidance
• Supervise and direct culinary staff, instructing and demonstrating simple food preparation to unqualified staff
• Apply safe food handling principles to meet the highest hygiene standards
• Help all culinary team members understand the Avery Food safety management system
