SDET is a type of Software Engineer, specialised and focused on Testing and Quality. The role of a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) is crucial in modern software engineering teams, especially those operating in agile and DevOps environments. SDETs are highly skilled engineers who focus on developing and maintaining automated frameworks to ensure software quality is embedded throughout the development lifecycle and as a result, is measured primarily on the influence it has in the way the software is designed, built and behaves once live - demonstrated by DORA metrics Defect Leakage, Mean Time To Recover (MTTR).
