Responsibilities
- Directly managing the screening, allocation, and prioritisation of casework for social work practitioners.
- Providing regular, high‑quality professional supervision and annual Performance Development Reviews (PDRs) to ensure staff adhere to Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) codes of practice.
- Managing a delegated budget and ensuring the efficient use of resources like CareFirst (the primary social work information system) and Pyramid (for performance monitoring).
- Acting as a key decision‑maker in safeguarding processes, ensuring that statutory duties under the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 are met.
- Providing leadership on high‑profile or complex cases involving the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act and Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act.
- Identifying, managing, and escalating organisational and individual risks. This includes ensuring staff are trained in risk assessment and health and safety.
- Working closely with health practitioners (nurses, GPs, OTs) to provide seamless "joined‑up" care.
- Building relationships with external providers, including the voluntary sector and private care homes, to ensure service availability in rural localities.
- Contributing to the HSCP's goal of reducing emergency hospital admissions and facilitating "delayed discharge" (helping people move from hospital back to community care safely).
- Ensuring all team activities meet the national standards set by the Care Inspectorate and Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS).
- Using data to monitor team performance, timeliness, and responsiveness to improve the "customer journey".
- Investigating and resolving complaints from service users or carers in line with council and NHS policies.
