Overview

Please note this is not a Swansea City Council job. You will be working with a private client who receives direct payments.

A full description of the candidate is provided by the family. The child is a 7-year-old boy who enjoys outdoor play, learning, swimming, and spending time with family. He has ASD and GDD and is working on communication at home and school. He also has epilepsy that is well managed with medication; there have been no seizures in over 3 years. He is very mobile and does not have health needs or physical challenges. The family would like a PA to support him in activities such as going to the park or beach and swimming.

Position details
  • Role: Personal Assistant (Driver required to accompany the client on outings)
  • Hours: 3 hours on weekends during term time; 10 hours during school holidays (flexible)
  • Rate of pay: £13.13 per hour
  • Insurance: PA must have business insurance on their car to transport the client
  • Location: Client’s community settings (outings and activities)
  • Employment: Trial period (six months probation). Salary paid monthly. Annual leave pro rata.
  • DBS: DBS check must be processed prior to commencement (costs met by Swansea council where eligible)
Responsibilities
  • Ensure the client’s safety; provide supervision in busy areas and near water due to limited danger awareness
  • Be patient and kind to support safe transitions
  • Assist with communication and help the client express needs and wants
  • Follow a toileting plan that works for the client
  • Help manage transitions and support the client to stay safe in the community
  • Be confident, mature, dependable, punctual, friendly, easy-going, adaptable, and supportive without taking over
Qualifications and experience
  • Essential:
    • Ability to ensure safety and provide supervision
    • Patience and kindness; ability to support safe transitions
    • Ability to support communication and help the client express needs
  • Desirable:
    • Experience working with children with ASD
    • Willingness to learn strategies to support dysregulation

Concerning the position

A trial period will be necessary in the first instance in the form of a six-month probationary period. DBS must be processed prior to commencement. Costs of DBS will be met by Swansea council where eligible.
