About the role

We are looking to recruit a dynamic cancer nurse to join our Cancer Nursing Team. This post is based in York Hospital but regular travel to Scarborough hospital or other Trust bases will be required.

Position Details

The position is a full time, permanent Band 6 Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse post.

Requirements

Our successful candidate will be a Registered Nurse who can work autonomously within their scope of practice and of the job description, and support the team to deliver safe effective care to our patients. Our candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a diverse multi-disciplinary group of clinicians, patients, and allied healthcare providers. You must be self‑motivated, enthusiastic, organized, computer literate and able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with a commitment to continued personal development.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a professional, proactive, and sensitive service to cancer patients and their relatives.
  • Act as a main point of contact for patients, carers, and the wider healthcare team, to provide (in conjunction with the Cancer Care Coordinator), high quality patient care through proactive identification of needs which require a level of clinical knowledge utilising approved tools and procedures.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the wider healthcare team, acting as a resource to ensure the provision of appropriate services to maximise the health and quality of life of the patient, improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery.
  • Be responsible for the coordination of the administrative function within the complex cancer pathways, arranging investigations, appointments and Multi‑Disciplinary Team discussions in a timely manner, to ensure waiting time targets are not breached and patients' needs are met.
  • Will be expected to manage and prioritise the running of the service and work flexibly to the needs of the service, which can often be demanding and unexpected.
