Skills Coach

Join Our Team as a Skills Coach - Make a Real Difference

Young People’s Learning Team at Hampshire Achieves is dedicated to supporting young people with additional needs as they prepare for a successful transition into adult life. We do this by delivering high-quality Pathways and Supported Internship programmes that help build resilience, knowledge, and practical skills. These programmes combine classroom learning, outdoor education, and real-world work experience to provide meaningful and lasting opportunities for our learners.

Our work is based across three main hubs: Basingstoke, Fareham, and Winchester. You will be based in one of these locations, depending on your role and area of focus.

The team is made up of a Hampshire Achieves Manager, a Curriculum Manager, two Senior Tutors, and a group of SEND and Functional Skills Tutors. They are supported by a dedicated team of Skills Coaches who work directly with learners to help them achieve their goals. When you begin your role, a colleague from the Young People’s Learning team will be there to support you as you settle in.

We are also fortunate to be supported by our Business Support colleagues, who play a vital role in managing the administrative needs of the Hampshire Achieves service. Their contribution is essential in helping the team run smoothly and effectively.

In your role, you’ll be working closely with young people to help them prepare for and access real work environments. Your support will be key in helping them achieve their learning goals and move on to employment or further education.

The Role:

Are you a passionate and driven professional with a talent for supporting young people with additional needs? This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic team and play a vital role in delivering and supporting our Supported Internship and Pathways programmes.

As a Skills Coach, you’ll work directly with learners to help them achieve their goals and progress into supported employment or further education. If you have experience working with vulnerable or SEN learners in an educational or training setting, and you bring strong support and coaching skills, this could be the perfect role for you.

Please note, the office is currently based in Basingstoke but will move to Elizabeth II Court, Winchester in 2026. The role will however still be based in Basingstoke.

What you’ll do:

Key responsibilities include:

  • Offering tailored support in literacy, numeracy, and digital skills.
  • Building strong, supportive, positive relationships with learners, using a strength-based approach to help them grow in confidence and independence.
  • Providing 1:1 and small group support in the classroom, helping learners complete tasks and develop essential skills.
  • Using coaching techniques to guide and help learners in becoming confident, independent and resilient learners.
  • Working alongside Tutors to support designing and delivering Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), identifying learning gaps and providing targeted support in literacy, numeracy, and digital skills.
  • Supporting Annual Reviews for your caseload of learners, ensuring their objectives are reflected in ILPs and group profiles.
  • Assisting learners in the workplace, offering support to both the learner and employer to ensure a successful placement. You’ll act as a key link between the learner, employer, and Tutor.

This is a rewarding role where your contribution will have a lasting impact on the lives of young people across the county.

This role may require travel across the county, so flexibility is essential.
