Job summary

Currys plc in Waterloo, London area, is hiring a Site Reliability Engineer in a hybrid role. You will apply software engineering to operations, owning availability and resilience of customer‑facing and core trading services, embedding with product teams to design reliability from the start and automate toil.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering background and sound judgement for high‑traffic production systems.
• Collaboration with engineers, product owners, service management and external partners in the UK and overseas.
• Experience in retail, e‑commerce, consumer goods or finance is valued.
• Proficiency in at least one language (e.g. Python, Go, PHP or Java) and production code ownership.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS/GCP valued), containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Deep observability and monitoring experience (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic, Azure Monitor, PagerDuty).
• Experience with AIOps: anomaly detection, event correlation, predictive alerting or automated remediation.
• Solid incident management in fast‑paced IT environments, incl. post‑incident reviews.
• Applied ML/data engineering for operations: time‑series data, anomaly detection models, AI‑assisted tooling.

Responsibilities

• Reliability Engineering: define, implement and report on SLIs/SLOs and use them for prioritisation.
• Design, build and operate a central AIOps platform with telemetry ingestion and ML‑based detection.
• Evolve a modern observability stack (metrics/logs/traces/events) using OpenTelemetry standards.
• Eliminate operational toil via IaC, self‑service tooling and CI/CD improvements.
• Incident Response: lead major incidents and blameless post‑incident reviews.
• Design for reliability: review architectures to embed reliability and security principles.
• Peak Readiness: lead capacity planning and performance engineering for peak events.
• Engineering Culture: coach teams in SRE practices and participate in on‑call.
