Shift Team Leader

The pivotal role of a Shift Team Leader involves overseeing plant operations on a shift rota, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards while driving operational efficiency. The successful Shift Team Leader candidate will be a proven leader with strong technical expertise in power plant processes, able to manage both people and performance to achieve consistent reliability and output.

Key Responsibilities of a Shift Team Leader
  • Lead and supervise a shift team, ensuring safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible plant operations.
  • Oversee routine and reactive maintenance activities, optimising plant reliability and availability.
  • Manage plant dispatch in consultation with external system operators to meet agreed performance requirements.
  • Ensure strict adherence to site safety protocols, including HV switching and safe isolation procedures.
  • Monitor plant performance, identify issues, and implement proactive measures to enhance operational outcomes.
Candidate Requirements
  • Degree or HND in an engineering discipline (or equivalent experience in power plant operations).
  • Minimum five years' experience in a power generation environment, including leadership of shift teams.
  • Strong knowledge of biomass or thermal plant processes, steam turbines, electrical systems, and safety controls.
  • Health and Safety certification (IOSH Managing Safely required; NEBOSH Certificate preferred).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
