Job summary

One Stop Stores Ltd is seeking a proactive Shift Leader to support daily store operations in Bedford. You will lead a team to deliver a smooth shopping experience, handle opening/closing duties, and act as the main point of contact in the Store Manager's absence.

You’ll foster an inclusive, safe, and efficient store environment while driving service excellence and community engagement. You will work closely with the Store Manager to prioritise tasks, manage queues, and ensure staff coverage

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community.
• Open and close the store and cover shifts, prioritising safety and customer needs.
• Be the go-to person for colleagues in absence of the Store Manager for daily queries.
• Support the Store Manager to coordinate seasonal, community and charity events.
• Ensure the store is clean, tidy and well presented.
• Prioritise replenishment of products important to customers.
• Ensure POS and shelf labels reflect standards.
• Take action on overcharges and prevent recurrences.
• Manage queues in-store to improve the shopping trip.
• Coordinate colleagues to deliver daily priorities and breaks.
• Know the store well and drive practical improvements.
• Follow health and safety routines and ensure staff compliance.
• Communicate effectively with the team.
• Suggest operational improvements to the Store Manager.
• Put customers first and tailor service to meet needs.
• Resolve customer queries with a smile.
• Adjust service to meet individual needs.
• Recognise and celebrate colleagues delivering great service.
• Identify obstacles to great service and remove them.
• Resolve staff queries in Store Manager's absence, or escalate as needed.
• Ensure appropriate staffing and arrange cover for absences/sickness.
• Act as a registered Keyholder for alarms and store safety.
• Monitor and action internal comms to keep staff informed.
• Coordinate staff to meet customer needs and store operations.
• Balance time between service and replenishment tasks.
• Support absence management and conduct return-to-work interviews when needed.
• Build relationships with Area Manager and People Partner for timely issue escalation.
