Job summary

Hunter Selection Ltd is seeking a highly skilled Shift Engineer for a leading manufacturing business in the UK. The role is an electrically biased, multi-skilled position working 12-hour Panama days and nights (6-6) on high-speed production lines, packaging and automated machinery.

You will carry out preventative and planned maintenance, fault finding on Siemens and Allen Bradley PLCs, SCADA, and ancillary systems, with a focus on continuous improvement and safe operation.

Qualifications

• Must be a multi-skilled engineer, electrically biased.
• City & Guilds Level 3 Electrical is a minimum requirement.
• Experience in high-speed production environments (food/FMCG).
• Completed a time-served apprenticeship.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in manufacturing engineering.
• Desirable: City & Guilds 2391 Electrical Test & Inspection.
• PLC & SCADA fault finding experience.
• 17th/18th Edition is advantageous.
• Strong teamwork and proactive improvement mindset.
• Ability to read P&ID and electrical/mechanical drawings.

Responsibilities

• Carry out preventive and planned maintenance electrically and mechanically.
• Working on high-speed production, packaging and automated machinery.
• Deal with conveyors, motors, gearboxes, sensors, isolation, inverters and pumps.
• PLC fault finding on Siemens & Allen Bradley.
• SCADA fault finding and electrical system troubleshooting.
• Support continuous improvement projects and new machinery installs.
• Perform mechanical work on pipework, fabrication and fault finding.

Role & Responsibilities of a Shift Engineer

• Carry out both preventative and planned maintenance, both electrically & mechanically
• Working on high-speed production, packaging and automated machinery
• Dealing with conveyors, motors, gearboxes, sensors, electrical isolation, inverters, pneumatics, servo drives, control panels, pumps, compressors, steam & boiler systems
• PLC - electrical fault finding on Siemens & Allen Bradley
• SCADA Systems - electrical fault finding
• Continuous improvement projects and new machinery installations and modification work
• Be able to work mechanically on various pipework, fabrication & fault finding

Knowledge, Skills & Experience need to be a Shift Engineer

• Must be a multi-skilled engineer, electrically biased
• City & Guilds Level 3 Electrical is a minimum requirement
• Must have worked in high-speed production - food, FMCG manufacturing environments
• Completed a time-served apprenticeship
• Minimum 5 years' experience as an engineer in manufacturing
• Beneficial to have City & Guilds 2391 Electrical Test & Inspection
• PLC & SCADA Systems - electrical fault finding
• Beneficial to have 17 th or 18 th Edition Electrical
• Strong team player with a continuous improvement approach
• A good level of mechanical skills - dealing with pipework, gearboxes, drives, pumps, etc
• Able to follow P&ID, electrical & mechanical drawings
