Job summary

Hunter Selection Ltd is seeking an experienced Shift Engineer to support a flagship UK site in Northampton. The role is mechanically biased and involves 12-hour shifts with 90 days off per year, delivering reliability and continuous improvement across production lines.

You will fault-find on electrical and mechanical systems, manage spares and CMMS, and lead installation projects. A formal apprenticeship and 5+ years in industrial environments are preferred.

Qualifications

• Multiskilled engineer with a mechanical bias and fault-finding on production machinery.
• Experience on industrial production, processing and packaging machinery.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience outside apprenticeship.
• Formal apprenticeship completed preferred.
• NVQ or City & Guilds level 3 or higher.
• Comfortable with rotating shift patterns.
• SAP and CMMS familiarity.
• Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, PLCs and control panels.
• Welding, fabrication and fitting skills beneficial.
• Focus on reliability engineering and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Maintain all production, processing and packaging machinery.
• Electrical and mechanical fault finding and repairs.
• Deal with motors, conveyors, PLCs, gearboxes, drives, sensors, hydraulics, pneumatics.
• Lead projects – new machine installs and continuous improvements.
• Order spares and maintain site CMMS.

Would you like to work for a growing local business, that has the job security of being part of a multi-billion-pound global manufacturer, at their flagship UK site.

They are looking for an experienced Shift Engineer, that is mechanically biased, working a shift rota that gives you 90 days off a year + off days in between shifts!

Role & Responsibilities of a Shift Engineer:

• Maintain all production, processing & packaging machinery
• Electrical & mechanical fault finding and repairs
• Dealing with motors, conveyors, PLC’s, gearboxes, drives, sensors, hydraulics, pneumatics
• Project work – new machine installs and continuous improvements
• Ordering spares, parts and maintain site CMMS

Knowledge, Skills & Experience need to be a Shift Engineer:

• Looking for a multi-skilled engineer, with a mechanical biased
• Must have experience of working on industrial production, processing & packaging machinery
• At least 5 years’ experience outside of apprenticeship
• Ideally have competed a formal apprenticeship scheme
• NVQ or City Guilds qualified to level 3 or higher
• Must be happy working a rotating shift pattern, with holidays built into a yearly rota
• Computer literate – able to use SAP systems / CMMS
• Experience of working on hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC’s, control panels, gearboxes
• Beneficial if able to do welding, fabrication and fitting work
• Passionate about reliability engineering, continuous improvements, asset care management
