Job summary

British Red Cross is seeking a proactive Service Controller in Winchester to manage day-to-day logistics with local travel. You will priorities requests, coordinate crews for transport, resettlement and sitting services, and ensure timely service delivery.

The role requires a full UK manual driving licence and a strong focus on customer service, confidentiality and teamwork to keep operations running smoothly and safely.

Responsibilities

  • Take incoming calls from hospitals, identify and risk assess referrals.
  • Coordinate crews to respond to transport, resettlement and sitting services.
  • Manage time-efficient routes daily using available resources.
  • Indirectly line-manage the crew, cover gaps in service provision when needed.
  • Ensure the contracted service is delivered on time to the required standard.

Job description

Location: Winchester, with travel around the local area

Salary: £25,541 to £27,200 per annum

Additional Requirement: Full UK Manual Driving Licence and access to a vehicle

We’re looking for a dynamic individual who can ensure effective and efficient day to day logistic operations within our service. Someone who can prioritise tasks when managing multiple service user requests. As Service Controller, can you ensure the smooth and efficient daily logistics operations within our service? Can you ensure effective communication and coordination within the team?

A day in the life or a Service Controller will include;

  • Taking incoming calls from hospitals, identifying and risk assessing referrals.
  • Co-ordinating the crew to respond to the necessary elements of the service as required by service users (including transport, resettlement and sitting services).
  • Managing time efficient routes on a daily basis, making effective use of resources in order to meet service user requirements.
  • Indirectly line managing the crew, promoting high morale, and ensuring teams are engaged and aligned with service goals. Helping to cover gaps in service provision when needed.
  • Ensuring the contracted service is delivered on a timely basis to the required standard (in line with policies and procedures).
  • Working with and supporting other services within the area to maintain a “hub” approach to service delivery.
  • Managing vehicle maintenance, supporting crews with vehicle checks.

To be a successful Service Controller you'll need;

  • Excellent customer service skills, with a caring attitude and an outgoing friendly manner.
  • IT literate: working knowledge of spreadsheets, email, web based and word processing software.
  • Strong time management skills. The ability to multi-task and prioritise.
  • Ability to deal with queries in a diplomatic and confidential manner.
  • Good driving skills in order to carry out driver observation.
