Job Description:
The service manager is responsible for coordinating staff and resources to achieve high standards of care, considering the physical, social, and psychological needs of service users. Ensuring their welfare and compliance with organizational standards, statutory, and contractual requirements. The role involves working within a legislative framework, promoting values and care ethos within the staff team and home.
The area Service Manager will oversee and support managers of 5 supported living projects and community activities for adults and children of Lynton Community Care. The Service Manager will report directly to the Registered Individual.
Key Responsibilities
- Referring, assessing, liaising with previous care teams, families, and advocates to develop personalized care and risk management plans.
- Maintaining good communication and relationships with service users, relatives, and professionals involved in their care.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant statutory requirements and best practices, including the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (revised 2012), Health & Safety, COSHH, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
- Controlling the home environment, ensuring environmental health, infection control, health and safety legislation, risk assessments, fire checks, and safety measures are in place.
- Collaborating with CIW to understand and adhere to Fundamental Standards and carrying out statutory notifications as required.
- Managing legal and statutory documentation related to the home, including insurance and enrollment documents.
- Documenting maintenance issues and ensuring appropriate actions are taken.
- Monitoring and investigating complaints, generating reports, and implementing corrective actions.
- Recruiting, inducting, and training staff, supporting their development, and promoting a culture of openness and honesty.
- Holding regular staff meetings, providing supervision, and supporting team development.
- Building positive relationships with staff and establishing effective communication mechanisms.
- Participating in disciplinary processes, including suspensions, investigations, and decision-making, in consultation with HR if necessary.
- Managing staff scheduling, rotas, absences, holidays, and sickness cover.
- Managing medication procedures, budgeting, and monitoring expenditure, including petty cash, shopping, and activity budgets.
- Safeguarding service users and addressing safeguarding issues.
- Handling applications related to Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and working with paid personal representatives to ensure legal compliance.
- Being on call out of hours to provide advice, guidance, and attend incidents as needed.
- Attending supervision, engaging in CPD, and contributing to strategic decisions and business growth.
- Performing other duties as determined by the Director, appropriate to skill and competence, including managing budgets and auditing behavioral reports.
The Service Manager must possess skills and qualifications to support both adults and children living with learning disabilities.
