Job summary

Kirklees Council is seeking a Senior Engineer to help shape the next generation of Urban Traffic Control technology. You will manage a portfolio of traffic signals, UTC systems, and related technology across the borough, driving improved safety, reliability and network performance.

The role involves design, operation, maintenance and optimisation of signals and infrastructure, with opportunities to influence future UTC in Kirklees.

Qualifications

• Experience in traffic signals, UTC or Intelligent Transport Systems.
• Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience delivering engineering projects and managing technology assets.
• Knowledge of traffic signal design, operation, and maintenance.
• Good communication and leadership skills.
• A relevant engineering qualification, or equivalent demonstrable industry experience.
• A full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Design, operate, maintain and optimise traffic signals and UTC assets.
• Manage renewals and improvements across the highway network.
• Collaborate with partners and industry specialists to improve road safety and journey reliability.
• Support asset management and incident response within the UTC portfolio.
