Job summary

Kirklees Council is seeking a Senior Engineer to join the Urban Traffic Control Team. You will manage a portfolio of traffic signals, UTC systems, and related technology, helping to optimise networks across the borough.

You will design, operate, and maintain UTC assets, work with partners, and drive data-led improvements to road safety and journey reliability. A full UK driving licence is required, with flexible and hybrid working arrangements offered.

Qualifications

• Experience in traffic signals, UTC or Intelligent Transport Systems.
• Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience delivering engineering projects and managing technology assets.
• Knowledge of traffic signal design, operation, and maintenance.
• Good communication and leadership skills.
• A full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Design, operate, maintain, renew, and optimise traffic signals and related technology.
• Manage asset management, incident response, and technology-led improvements across the highway network.
• Collaborate with colleagues, partners and industry specialists to improve road safety and reliability.
