Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal Town Planner to lead infrastructure planning projects across the UK, with an emphasis on DCOs. You will manage major development applications and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams across energy, transport, water and housing sectors.

You will mentor colleagues, drive client engagement, and contribute to business development while maintaining high standards of quality and safety in delivery.

Qualifications

• Degree in Town Planning or a related discipline.
• Membership of the RTPI or an equivalent professional body.
• Significant experience leading planning applications for major infrastructure.
• Expert witness experience would be advantageous.
• Client-focused with strong interpersonal skills and collaboration.
• Ability to write clearly and concisely; work independently and under pressure.
• Commitment to high quality and delivery standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and assist in the delivery of major development applications.
• Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams across various project types.
• Submit and manage planning applications with local planning authorities and stakeholders.
• Provide planning advice on consent requirements and development rights.
• Produce feasibility reports and consent strategies; write statements for applications.
• Contribute to business development; identify opportunities and build client relationships.
• Lead preparation of commercial tenders; engage with stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Environmental Impact Assessment teams; participate in meetings.
• Oversee project management; ensure quality and health and safety compliance.
