Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to join our Civil and Structural Team, delivering design for power plants, HV substations, HVDC stations, and cable projects, with leadership across FEED and detailed design.

You will manage projects, write proposals, coordinate multidisciplinary work, and ensure National Grid CDAE compliance, while mentoring junior engineers and driving technical excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or Construction Management.
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng/MICE/MIStructE).

Responsibilities

• Project management: oversee programme, budget, resources, and quality plans.
• Proposal writing: craft compelling proposals.
• FEED: lead Front End Engineering Design activities.
• Drawing preparation: create drawings for planning and tender packages.
• Detailed civil/structural design: develop comprehensive designs.
• Design coordination: collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
• Specification preparation: draft detailed specs.
• Condition and structural assessment: evaluate existing structures for reuse.
• National Grid CDAE: ensure compliance with National Grid standards.
