Job description

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

Job summary

If you have an interest in further developing your leadership, organisational and cardio-respiratory assessment skills then this is the ideal opportunity for you!

An opportunity has arisen on Bear Ward for a full-time 1 year fixed-term/secondment for a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse

Bear Ward is a busy and dynamic cardiology day care ward caring for infants and children with various cardiothoracic anomalies, including congenital heart disease, heart failure, heart and lung transplant continuing care, pulmonary hypertension assessments, tracheal and respiratory conditions

In addition to our in-patients we manage pre-admissions and post discharge follow-up. Children and their families attend the ward for pre-operative investigations and preparation for future cardiac surgery and their subsequent healthcare journey. This involves preparing them emotionally and physically for their surgery and their intensive care stay

On average we expect to admit and care for 12-18 patients a day and carry out nurse-led discharge for day cases. We work hard to ensure that discharges are planned from the moment of pre-admission

Main duties of the job

Excellent communication skills are required in order to work with Bear ward, CICU, Echo, ECG, Cardiologists, Surgeons, reception staff and the Cardiology Booking office to ensure smooth patient journeys

We also work closely with Cath Lab which operates 5 days a week, performing over 800 interventional and diagnostic procedures a year. These include ASD, VSD and PDA closures, electrophysiology studies, ICD and pacemaker implants and combined hybrid MRI/angio cases
