Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical Practice
  • To work in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, Trust Policies and Procedures
  • To act as an expert for the care of neonates/infants, providing effective leadership and acting as a positive role model
  • To set agreed standards of nursing care and to monitor them and take action to improve if necessary
  • To communicate effectively with patients, their parents/carers and all healthcare personnel
  • To promote a holistic and multi disciplinary approach to care, ensuring continuity of care
  • In conjunction with senior nurses within the care group, to develop clinical policies and protocols relevant to the area, ensuring that practice is evidence based

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse - Adult or Child Branch
  • Formal Neonatal qualification - ENB 405/ diploma/degree or working at this level and able to critically analyse situations
  • Post registration qualification in mentorship or ENB 997/998 or equivalent
  • Current NALs certificate or willingness to undertake
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
  • Extensive clinical experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
  • Able to demonstrate continuing professional development and commitment to professional development of others
  • Awareness of current developments and national policy in own clinical specialty.
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding policies and procedures and ability to refer concerns appropriately
  • Can analyse and interpret information in an effective manner and exercises sound judgment
SKILLS
Essential criteria
  • Evidence of utilising evidence-based practice and writing guidelines
  • Evidence of effective multi-disciplinary working.
  • Has demonstrated leadership skills in a supervisory/team leader context
  • Demonstrates evidence of developing innovative practice and of being proactive in the management of change.
  • Basic IT and computer skills
  • Experience in budgetary management and control, or the willingness to acquire this
